ACIM Self-Study: The Ego’s Use of Guilt

²The ego has a purpose, just as the Holy Spirit has. ³The ego’s purpose is fear, because only the fearful can be egotistic. (ACIM, T-5.V.1:2-3)

Actually, yung competitive nature ay not a sign of strength, but a sign of weakness. Kasi it’s a sign of fear.

Ganun ka-powerful ang true strength that comes from love.

⁴The ego’s logic is as impeccable as that of the Holy Spirit, because your mind has the means at its disposal to side with Heaven or earth, as it elects. ⁵But again, remember that both are in you. (ACIM, T-5.V.1:4-5)

Opposites sila, pero logical sila on their own.

So again, importante yung awareness kasi parehas present yung both thought systems sa psyche (mind) natin.

³What is truly blessed is incapable of giving rise to guilt, and must give rise to joy. ⁴This makes it invulnerable to the ego because its peace is unassailable. (ACIM, T-5.V.2:3-4)

What is true, your true self, ay never nagiging guilty at always innocent.

Kaya yung true self (soul) natin ay laging at peace kasi walang reason not to be.

⁶Guilt is always disruptive. ⁷Anything that engenders fear is divisive because it obeys the law of division. ⁸If the ego is the symbol of the separation, it is also the symbol of guilt. (ACIM, T-5.V.2:6-8)

Yung ego is the symbol of separation, kaya symbol rin of guilt yung ego.

¹⁰It is the symbol of attack on God. ¹¹This is a totally meaningless concept except to the ego, but do not underestimate the power of the ego’s belief in it. ¹²This is the belief from which all guilt really stems. (ACIM, T-5.V.2:10-12)

Guilt. Cause and effect.

The ego is the part of the mind that believes in division. (ACIM, T-5.V.3:1)

⁴The ego believes that this is what you did because it believes that it is you. ⁵If you identify with the ego, you must perceive yourself as guilty. ⁶Whenever you respond to your ego you will experience guilt, and you will fear punishment. ⁷The ego is quite literally a fearful thought. (ACIM, T-5.V.3:4-7)

Convincing yung illusion of separation kaya nagiging identified tayo with the ego.

At dahil feeling guilty tayo, iisipin natin na “we deserve God’s punishment.”

Built-in yan sa thought system ng ego: separation, sin, guilt, punishment, at fear.

Whatever you accept into your mind has reality for you. ²It is your acceptance of it that makes it real. ³If you enthrone the ego in your mind, your allowing it to enter makes it your reality. ⁴This is because the mind is capable of creating reality or making illusions. (ACIM, T-5.V.4:1-4)

⁵I said before that you must learn to think with God. ⁶To think with Him is to think like Him. ⁷This engenders joy, not guilt, because it is natural. ⁸Guilt is a sure sign that your thinking is unnatural. ⁹Unnatural thinking will always be attended with guilt, because it is the belief in sin. (ACIM, T-5.V.4:5-9)

Think with God raw turo ni Jesus.

Paano malalaman na we’re thinking with God? Nagkakaron tayo ng peace of mind. Peaceful joy ang pakiramdam natin. At it feels natural, parang feeling at home.

Kabaliktaran naman pag we think with the ego. Parang may “something wrong.” At meron naman talaga: wrong in thinking, error in perception. We feel lost.

Dyan na pumapasok yung mga fearful thoughts leading to feeling guilt, depression, anxiety, worry, at iba pang “negative” states of being.

The guiltless mind cannot suffer. ²Being sane, the mind heals the body because it has been healed. ³The sane mind cannot conceive of illness because it cannot conceive of attacking anyone or anything. (ACIM, T-5.V.5:1-3)

In effect, nawawala na rin yung symptoms of illness sa body, which are symptoms of a sick mind.

Yung healed mind will not think with the ego, with attacking thoughts. Kasi to attack anyone or anything is to attack oneself.

⁶The ego believes that by punishing itself it will mitigate the punishment of God. ⁷Yet even in this it is arrogant. ⁸It attributes to God a punishing intent, and then takes this intent as its own prerogative. (ACIM, T-5.V.5:6-8)

Ganito ka-insane yung ego: inimbento niya yung concept of sin, tapos magi-guilty, tapos paparusahan yung sarili kasi deserving of “God’s punishment” kuno.

Yan talaga yung blasphemy, pag iniisip nating capable si God of punishment.

²That is why the question, “What do you want?” must be answered. ³You are answering it every minute and every second, and each moment of decision is a judgment that is anything but ineffectual. ⁴Its effects will follow automatically until the decision is changed. (ACIM, T-5.V.6:2-4)

So tanungin natin ang ating sarili kung ano ba talagang gusto natin, healing o suffering?

Every moment ay sinasagot natin yun, consciously or unconsciously.

“Cide” meaning “kill,” as in pesticide, o homicide.

Ego ba o Holy Spirit? Automatic yung effects nung magiging decision natin: suffering pag ego, healing pag Holy Spirit.

⁸The Holy Spirit and the ego are the only choices open to you. ⁹God created one, and so you cannot eradicate it. ¹⁰You made the other, and so you can. (ACIM, T-5.V.6:8-10)

Good news e hindi naki-kill yung Holy Spirit.

¹²What you made can always be changed because, when you do not think like God, you are not really thinking at all. ¹³Delusional ideas are not real thoughts, although you can believe in them. (ACIM, T-5.V.6:12-13)

Pwedeng mabago yung isipan natin kasi kung thinking with the ego tayo, e hindi talaga tayo nag-iisip nun, haha! Kasi we’re not in our “right” minds.

Sabi nga sa book na Conversations with God, fear is false evidence appearing real.

The continuing decision to remain separated is the only possible reason for continuing guilt feelings. (ACIM, T-5.V.8:1)

Pag feeling guilty, ibig sabihin wrong decision. Kailangan lang nating mag-decide ulit.

³Any decision of the mind will affect both behavior and experience. ⁴What you want you expect. (ACIM, T-5.V.8:3-4)
